The 60V battery with 24.5 Ah capacity comes with fast charging, which only takes four hours when using the optional charger. The two powerful 1000 W carbonless electric motors are easily tamed by semi-hydraulic brakes assisted by the advanced electronic ABS, which gives you greater confidence in the event of sudden or heavy braking. The structural components of this scooter are designed and manufactured in-house by Kaabo while the proven electronic components are supplied by Minimotors.

Body, design and equipment

Kaabo Mantis GT (PRO) offers exceptional structural design quality matching the best scooters in the world. The body structure is robust and uses many strong metal components that are very well and firmly assembled. The scooter is very quiet, having no rattling or whistling parts. The loudest scooter components being its massive electric motors, which will surely not be bothering you by their noise. The Mantis has a simply but purposefully designed cockpit with relatively wide bicycle-like handlebars and a finger lever controlling the output with EY3 display made by Minimotors. On the right side of the handlebars, next to the display, there are buttons allowing motor mode control (one or both) and power supply control (ECO mode or the faster turbo mode). The folding mechanism is excellent, offering easy operation and being very stable. The Mantis has a foldable steering rod secured by a clamping sleeve, which is essentially a metal housing that slides up/down to lock the steering rod or allow folding it. The similar mechanisms used by other scooters are often difficult to tighten up, which leads to the gradual loosening of the steering rod. Unlike these models, Mantis uses a sleeve featuring opposite quick-release clamps that are much stronger and more efficient than the traditional type. Once the mechanism is locked properly, it has no play and does not make any annoying squeaking noises when a rider pushes against the handlebars. The EY3 power control finger lever has a built-in LED information display that is bright enough to remain legible in direct sunlight. The display comes with a green backlight, which you will appreciate, especially when riding at night. It displays all important data, such as speed, current gear, daily kilometers travelled (TRIP), total kilometers travelled (ODO) and the current battery level. You can easily customize your ride by setting the so-called “P” options, which are accessible by pressing the drive mode and power button. The scooter’s dimensions are 1267 x 210 x 1230 mm in unfolded state and 480 x 210 x 1230 mm when folded. The total weight of the scooter – 29 kg is on the borderline of portability. Carrying it will probably make you sweat a little. The main scooter body is made of 6082-T6 – a specially wrought aluminum that is similar to the one used in the aerospace industry. The wheel shafts are made of SCM440, a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with carbon admixture. The entire electrical cabling is cleverly routed and purposefully wrapped in a housing that keeps the cables together and ensures their long serviceable life.

Safety and ride quality

The Mantis is equipped with semi-hydraulic ZOOM disc brakes providing you with a smooth braking feeling and offering an excellent braking effect. Moreover, the scooter’s equipment includes a double electronic brake with a user-adjustable braking force. But beware, electronic brakes can be quite strong at higher settings, so you better check them out in advance! The Mantis is also equipped with electronic ABS (anti-lock braking system) preventing the wheels from locking. It can be easily deactivated, if you prefer riding without it. You will certainly appreciate the recuperative charging option, which returns a portion of the energy back to your battery. The scooter offers the option for less experienced riders to activate the so-called “Kick-start” feature preventing any unwanted start up and you can even reduce the scooter’s massive power by switching off the front motor or by selecting a lower gear on the display. The scooter is fitted with 10-inch tires with inner tube that have a well-rounded profile and provide you with excellent ride quality. The tires are mounted on a split rim that comes as an amazing bonus making it easier to change the tire and inner tube compared to scooters with a fixed rim. We must neither forget the front and rear spring shock absorbers that enhance your riding comfort. We view negatively the cheap foam grips on the handlebars, which you will surely want to replace as soon as possible. Also, the scooter lacks a bell or horn. However, both are easily available in regular bike shops, so you will be definitely able to choose a bell/horn that suits you. The Mantis is equipped with front and rear LED lights, as well as white LED strips on both sides of the deck. Since the headlights are mounted very low above the ground, their beam does not reach very far. They will make you visible to other road users, but you will see poorly the road in front of you. Therefore, for safer riding at night we recommend installing the additional headlight mounted at a greater height. The step-on surface of the scooter’s deck is covered by a rubber pad featuring the Mantis logo, which will provide your shoes with good grip both in dry and wet conditions. The pad also covers the screw holes that secure the deck to the scooter body.

Power and range

The Kaabo Mantis GT (PRO) contains a lot of stored energy and a range wrapped in a package weighing 29 kg. The two powerful carbonless motors with identical 1000 W output provide you with fast and funny ride up to 60 km/h, being able to master a 35% climbing angle. You can travel on single motor and save battery or turn both motors on and enjoy powerful acceleration. Add to that a large LG or Samsung battery (60 V, 24.5 Ah) and you get a range of up to 80 km (under ideal conditions specified by the manufacturer). This kind of range will give you the freedom to ride without having to worry about where to recharge your battery. The charging port is located on the left side of the deck and is equipped with a protective cap preventing any dirt from entering inside. You can also buy a fast charger, which will charge your batter much quicker. The battery does not suffer from any undesirable memory effect, which is why it will last many years, subject to proper maintenance!

Use and practicality

The scooter is very agile and easy to control when in dual motor mode and at maximum power. Thanks to its solid structure and comfortable suspension, this is a versatile scooter for any surface type. Given its 2x2 drive, the Mantis GT (PRO) manages both off-road terrain and very steep climbing. Having a sufficiently powerful battery, you do not have to worry about running out of juice while on your trip. The 10-inch, air-filled tires provide your Mantis with excellent riding comfort, traction and safety. The scooter’s weight reaches acceptable 29 kg, so carrying this machine up the stairs remains just about possible. You will neither have any problem loading it into the trunk of your car as once folded, this scooter has pleasantly compact dimensions.
