Dualtron Thunder 3

As you probably already suspect, the Dualtron Thunder 3 ranks among the most powerful scooters on the market. However, thanks to two larger electric motors it now provides a total power of 10 800 W, a top speed of 100 km/h and an unbelievable range of 170 km. Still, the biggest changes are seen with modernized equipment. The Thunder 3 comes with IPX5 water resistance, EY4 Bluetooth-enabled display with better layout and stronger front LED headlights. These changes further solidify its position at the absolute top on the list of best scooters out there.

Body, design and equipment

Like all generations of Dualtron Thunder, the latest version of this scooter offers practical design and perfect build quality, which you will appreciate during your daily travels. As concerns the frame, the manufacturer continues to rely on specially forged 6082-T6 aluminum for maximum durability and safety. However, the frame has grown in all directions compared to previous generation. With its length of 127 cm, height of 135.5 cm and 70 cm wide handlebars, you can be sure of even better controllability. In addition to the enlarged body, the Dualtron Thunder 3 comes with a reinforced steering bar and a more durable, 3-point folding system. Despite being extended, the handlebars remain foldable, which greatly simplifies scooter’s storage and transport. The upgraded body details include an enlarged, all-rubber deck surface, mudguards and motor cover design. The license plate holder was added as well. One of the most striking modernized parts is the EY4 display. Compared to its previous generation, it is bigger and more graphically refined. It now offers IPX7 water resistance and Bluetooth connectivity.

Safety and ride quality

The goal of the Thunder model series is to provide customers with first-class and uncompromising quality and technology – the third generation is no exception. As is now a tradition, it uses elastomer suspension both at the front and rear that makes sure your ride is comfortable. It is a proven suspension system used by this manufacturer in almost every model of the Dualtron series. If you find the suspension stiffness not to your liking, you can easily adjust it in three steps or choose from other five cartridges offering different elastomer stiffness. This suspension type requires no maintenance at all and excels in high reliability. Combined with 11-inch, extra-wide tubeless tires, it will provide you with riding smooth as a silk. The tubeless wheels significantly reduce the risk of getting a flat tire and allow simple repair in the event of tire damage. The tires are easily replaceable thanks to the modular wheel structure. As concerns safety, you can rely on the efficiency of the two NUTT 4-piston hydraulic brakes with integrated cooling and a diameter of 160 mm. Their braking power is further enhanced by the innovative, double-action caliper. Combined with the electronic brake, you can rest assured that you will always brake to a stop safely from any speed. Another important safety element is the electronic ABS preventing wheel locking when braking heavily. How could there be safety without proper lights? Unlike its predecessor, the Dualtron Thunder 3 has two extra powerful headlights on the steering rod, which are complemented with LED lights in the deck. Also present are the rear lights and direction lights, including the brake LED strip on the raised part of the deck. Combined, they make you better visible and safer in an urban environment, particularly in reduced visibility. The scooter also offers the option to activate the so-called “Kick-start” feature preventing any unwanted start from a standstill. You can reduce the scooter’s brutal power by switching off the front motor or by selecting a lower gear via the multifunction controller.

Power and range

There can be no doubt that the Dualtron Thunder 3 is among the scooters that offer the most extreme performance. If, somehow, the performance of the previous versions, which exceeded 10 kW, was not enough for you, the third generation now offers a power of 10 800 W. The manufacturer enlarged the magnets in the two MAX BLDC motors by 10 mm, allowing the scooter to master even more challenging off-road conditions. Add to all that the huge LG M50 72 V, 40 Ah battery that gives you an amazing range of 170 km and you have a machine you will want to ride all the time. Once your adventure is over, you can charge the scooter via two ports, plus one that supports fast charging. All ports are protected by caps preventing any dirt coming inside. The manufacturer inserted the Dualtron Thunder 3’s battery into a steel case coated with powder paint, which makes it even better resistant to weather effects. Combined with two control units made in-house by Minimotors and providing an option of brief extra power for overtaking, the scooter allows riders to ride at speeds of up to 100 km/h (depending on rider’s weight, outside temperature and terrain).

Use and practicality

The rigid body and brutal performance predestine this scooter to become a truly versatile machine. Thanks to its 2x2 drive, the Dualtron Thunder 3 handles off-road terrain and even a very steep climb. You do not have to worry about your scooter giving up on you on a longer trip. You will love the very comfortable chassis, which you will be able to use both on cobblestones and on field roads. However, a more robust and larger body negatively influences the Thunder 3’s weight. Despite scooter’s versatility, its weight of about 57 kg may be a limiting factor for some riders. The robust body also causes poor compactness, so it will be more problematic to take it inside a restaurant with you. Instead, you will have to lock it outside, like a bicycle. It fits inside the trunk of a normal car with its size, but do not expect much luggage space left in it. Nevertheless, it remains one of the best and most popular scooters in the world. This is especially true now that the whole body offers IPX5 water resistance.

Everything – the motor, battery, equipment, durability and quality of the scooter – has been redesigned by the manufacturer. With its brutal power, the nature of this model will be mostly enjoyed by true enthusiasts who love riding the most powerful machines. About the brand

The Minimotors is known globally as one of the best and most reliable manufacturers of electric scooters. It was established in 1999 in Pusan (Busan) in South Korea.
