City Boss D1000LH

The City Boss D1000LH is a mid-range scooter designed for people looking for a compromise between price and performance, along with sufficient load capacity. It is suitable both for daily swift riding in a city and longer all-day trips along cycling routes. Providing a power of 1000 W (500 W on both wheels) coupled with an 18 Ah battery, this model offers a range of up to 50 km depending on the riding style, rider’s weight and terrain difficulty. Given these performance parameters and the price, its weight of 28.5 kg comes as very favorable considering that this is a robustly built scooter with a maximum 150 kg load capacity. Furthermore, as is usually the case with the City Boss brand, it offers practical features such as a folding frame, height-adjustable and folding handlebars, a powerful LED light with a 10 m long beam, a loud horn and many more. Safety and comfort are provided by front and rear shock absorbers along with 10-inch off-road tires protected by fenders and, particularly, by disc brakes installed on both drive wheels.

Body, design and ride quality

The City Boss D1000LH scooter has a specifically developed robust and durable frame made of aviation-grade aluminium capable of withstanding loads of up to 150 kg and, at the same time, meeting the technical requirements of the European Union’s EN 17128 standard. Weighing 28.5 kg, this scooter offers a great performance/price/load capacity compromise, while it is possible to occasionally transport it in a car trunk or carry it up a few stairs. The folding mechanism (with double safety feature) enables quick folding in just 8 seconds. The City Boss brand has maintained its typical design strengths, such as height-adjustable, folding handlebars for riders 150 - 210 cm tall. The 56 cm wide handlebars allow stable riding even at higher speeds or when passing uneven terrain. The front and rear shock absorbers along with widened 3" off-road tires with a 10-inch diameter (both inflatable) guarantee sufficient comfort for moving comfortably within a city or on cycling routes or for occasional off-road riding. The deck is 50 cm long and 19 cm wide, providing ample space for both feet placed behind each other or next to each other. Also prominent are the blue design elements, such as the folding frame lever or rear shock absorbers, distinguishing this model from other City Boss models in terms of design.

Safety, performance and equipment

The BLDC electric motor providing 500 W power and installed in both wheels (1000 W in total) allows comfortably climbing slopes of up to 20°. The top speed is software-locked at 25 km/h (up to 45 km/h, if unlocked). The scooter can accelerate from 0 to 25 km/h in just 4 seconds (in two-wheel drive mode). The scooter is equipped with a front and rear disc brake. This combination ensures the best possible stability and handling while braking. The integrated 48 V and 18 Ah Li-Ion battery commands a range of up to 50 km (with just rear motor switched on). Charging it takes approximately 10 – 11 hours. To make sure you remain visible on the road, the scooter is fitted with a front LED light providing 400 lumen intensity with a beam of up to 10 m long. A sufficiently loud horn is another safety feature. When riding in a city, you will appreciate the cruise control that automatically maintains the set speed. The City Boss D1000LH uses a transreflective display that is easy-to-read even in direct sunlight or at night. It displays information such as battery level, speed, distance traveled and current gear (1-3). Another practical feature is the USB port functioning as a power bank for a smartphone located at the back.

Use, practicality and maintenance

The price/performance ratio, along with excellent load capacity, predetermines this scooter to conquer destinations without any major compromises even when carrying heavier riders. The two 500 W motors accelerate swiftly even with a load weighing over 120 kg and they can also take you up a steep hill. On a flat surface it is possible to deactivate the front motor and save battery for extended range (turbo - press the red button to activate/deactivate the front motor when entering a steep slope or for instant acceleration). The City Boss scooters were designed to be easy-to-maintain. In general, scooters only require occasional greasing of moving parts, such as shock absorbers, to ensure trouble-free continuous use and also to extend their serviceable life. The manufacturer offers a number of spare parts and some modularity capability, such as the option to purchase a seat.
